Another form of romance scam is what we call “sextortion”. Here’s what it works: After exchanging nude photos and videos with you, the scammer will threaten you that if you don’t pay them money, they will upload your private pics and videos publicly to the internet.

These online dating crimes and scams have been the sole reason why dating app owners and users began requiring an ID to make sure the other party is safe to interact with (meaning: using his/her real identity and has no previous criminal records related to online dating).

- You will be required to submit a proof of identification (documents like national ID, bank statement, utility bills).
